Africa Cup of Nations 2013

The Africa Cup of Nations is otherwise known as the Orange Africa Cup of Nations. This year the Africa Cup of Nations is held from 19th Jan to 10th Feb 2013. Africa Cup 2013 is the 29th football championship of Africa Cup, which is organized by the Confederation of African Football. South Africa is the host of the Africa Cup 2013.

Katlego is the official match ball and Takuma is the Mascot of AFCON 2013. The mascot called Takuma was designed by a pre teen school going kid named Tumelo. He was selected by the local organizing committee that made the announcement of inviting ideas from the five major cities. There are 16 African nations that are taking part in this football season. These teams would have veteran trainers and coaches who strive hard and make sure that each player has derived individual attention and his special skills are enhanced.

All these teams would have their own star player or best player who would stir anticipation among the soccer fans each year. This year the qualifying rounds will comprise of knock out matches instead of the usual group matches. This is owing to the reason that the past season of Africa Cup 2013 was over only a few months back.

Usually the participating countries would be decided through the process of placing bids and those bids of African nations that are accepted would find their place in the AFCON league. Those African teams that were selected are Ghana, Congo, Mali, Niger, Zambia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Burkino Faso, Ivory coast, Togo, Tunisia, Algeria, South Africa, Angola, Morocco and Cape Verde. These teams would be playing in four zones such as zone A, B, C and D respectively.

Some of the teams that were not selected are Somalia, Swaziland, Mauritius, Mauritania, Eritrea, Djibouti and Comoros Islands. The selected teams in the four zones would play 32 matches together and would comprise of semi finals, quarter finals, play offs and the finals. These matches are held at various venues such as Soccer City stadium, Mbombela Stadium, Moses Mabhida Stadium, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and Royal Bafokeng Stadium of which the Soccer City stadium would host the opening and closing matches of Africa Cup 2013. The location of these venues can be easily accessed with the help of a location map. With lot of teams teaming together and with best players putting their best foot forward, there is no doubt that Africa Cup of Nations 2013 is full of anticipation, fun and football.
