Russia draws closer out on pinnacle in their qualifying group after conquering an early hinder. Having opened with a win over Andorra, the Russians crashed to a home defeat at the hands of Slovakia. However, they responded in positive fashion with wins in the Republic of Ireland and Macedona before they claimed a point in Armenia.

Wins over Armenia and Macedonia followed before they were held to a goalless draw by the Irish in a match they dominated. But they closed out their qualifying campaign with wins over Slovakia and Andorra and that was enough to secure their automatic progression to Euro 2012.
