The teams which become eligible to contest in the tournament are grouped in 4 groups named A, B, C and D. the top 2 teams of each of the groups, i.e. 8 teams next contest the quarterfinals. This now becomes a knock-out tournament. Again, the top 4 teams out of these 8 contest the semifinals. The top 2 teams then play against each other in the Euro Cup final.
